About TFCA
The Texas Fire Chiefs Association is a not-for-profit corporation chartered in Texas on September 15, 1988. As a trade association, TFCA holds a 501(c)6 tax exemption designation from the Internal Revenue Service. The association was headquartered at the Texas Municipal League for nine years before establishing an independent office in 1997. TFCA remains an Affiliate of the Texas Municipal League.
TFCA's first professional association executive, James M. Gaston, Ph.D., CAE, was hired to manage the association in 1997. Since that time, TFCA has grown from 150 members to over 800. The communications program, including Texas Fire Chief magazine and The Friday Report online bulletin had much to do with TFCA's growth. The annual conference was established in 1998 as the state's premier event for fire service leaders. Fire Training Online was implemented in 2002 to train future fire executives.
